Radial vs Focused Shockwave: Why the Difference Matters

“Shockwave therapy” is often used as an umbrella term, but radial pressure waves and focused shockwaves have different physical characteristics. That makes modality one of the first things to establish when comparing equipment.

Radial pressure waves

Radial systems generate pressure waves that spread from the applicator into a broader area, with energy concentrated closer to the surface. Shock Vitalize currently positions its devices as radial systems.

Focused shockwaves

Focused systems concentrate energy at a defined focal region and are common in specialized professional settings. Equipment cost, training and use cases can differ substantially.

Evidence note: Clinical evidence varies by condition, protocol and modality. Do not infer that a consumer radial device reproduces the same treatment as a clinician-administered focused ESWT protocol.
